Helen Jackson Wilkins Claytor, who was instrumental in the desegregation of the Young Women's Christian Association (YWCA) and the organization's first Black president, recently died in Grand Rapids, MI. She was 98.

She was the mother of noted educator-author-activist Roger Wilkins, the Robinson professor of history and American culture at George Mason University in Virginia.

She served as national president of the (YWCA) from 1967 to 1976.
