ELIZABETH CITY - One of the largest U.S. Coast Guard bases is housed in Elizabeth City, but despite some high hopes it was not named a "Coast Guard City" this year.

Units, including Elizabeth City Air Station, will honor Coast Guard Day. The Coast Guard's service began Aug. 4, 1790, when the Revenue Cutter Service was established by Congress to
