Jun. 5--The tsunami in the Indian Ocean, massive development in China, a shortage of barges and an increase in international trade have pushed production past the boiling point at the nation's cement plants.

As a result, the price of concrete -- the product made from cement -- has increased as much as 25 percent since last year to $75 per square yard, and increased the price of a new home over the year by $285, cement industry officials say.
