Con fragmentos de restos óseos de serpientes encontrados en 17 ofrendas del Templo Mayor, una bióloga del Instituto Nacional de Antropología e Historia (INAH) identifica diversas especies de esos reptiles utilizados en entierros y representaciones de deidades como Quetzalcóatl y Huitzilopochtli.
