Immigration Minister Joe Volpe's recent announcement concerning changes to Canada's immigration system, provides no assistance to the tens of thousands of migrant farm workers employed in the country, according to Justicia for Migrant Workers (J4MW).
Migrant Farm workers from the Caribbean and Mexico provide the "backbone" to Canada's multi-billion dollar agricultural industry, according to J4MW. Yet, workers are employed for a period between eight weeks and eight months, with no provisions in their contracts for permanent residency in Canada.
