Agricultural Research Service (ARS) scientists are working with the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations to eradicate the screwworm in the Caribbean and Latin America. The screwworm is a pest that destroys livestock and wild mammals by laying eggs in open wounds. The larvae that result feed on the mammals' tissues, killing them if left unchecked.
