WestPoint Stevens textile manufacturer lays off workers at Wagram, N.C., plant.

May 19--WestPoint Stevens Inc., a textile maker under bankruptcy protection, will temporarily lay off 200 to 300 people at its Wagram plant because of slow sales, a source said Wednesday.

Neither the duration of the layoffs nor the start date for the cutbacks was known. The employees are expected to be brought back, the source said under condition of anonymity.

Officials with WestPoint Stevens, based in West Point, Ga., did not return telephone calls.

The plant's last known employment was 1,850, according to the ...
