May 12--Milwaukee will get $18 million in federal tax credits to help spark new businesses or business expansion in depressed parts of the city, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced Wednesday.

The Milwaukee Economic Development Corp. was among 41 organizations nationwide to get a total of $2 billion in New Markets Tax Credits, a relatively new federal program offering tax breaks to investors willing to help finance business projects in low-income areas.
