    DOYLESTOWN, Pa. _ At a time when many large museums are retrenching, the James A. Michener Art Museum in Doylestown is flourishing. Sunday, the five-year-old institution opened an addition that doubles its gallery space and more than triples its size overall. 
    The $1.8 million expansion provides four new exhibition galleries, an outdoor sculpture garden, an art-storage area, and a shop and tea room. 
    When the museum opened in 1988, it seemed natural to name it after Michener, a native son and world-famous novelist. He and his wife, Mari, contributed $1 million toward its ...
