Annette Marie Poeschel knows that it can be hard to ask for help.

She is executive director of the Intercongregation Communities Association food shelf, and people in need often must ask her for food or for help paying the bills.

She said the need for food and emergency financial assistance seems to be 50 percent higher this year than last year in ICA's service area, which covers Hopkins, Minnetonka, Woodland, Deephaven, Excelsior, Greenwood and Shorewood.
