ABOUT THIS SELF-PORTRAIT

Thomas Hart Benton was in his early 30s when he painted this picture. He had recently married, so it was natural that he include the portrait of his wife, Rita, with his own. This picture is of particular interest because it is an early example of the artistic style for which Benton became famous.
