Hans Delbruck and modern military history. (German military historian)

Hans Delbruck was a German historian who advocated the recognition of military history as a distinct discipline. Delbruck, who lived from 1848 to 1929, faced considerable opposition from the German military and academic communities because he had little direct knowledge of warfare and tactics. However, as professor at Berlin University from 1881 to 1921 he showed how military history could be approached scientifically by analyzing it in terms of contextualization, rationalization, universalization and publicization.
