    Ribs have held a fascination for humans ever since God took one from Adam and created Eve. 
    ``A cheaper cut,'' Archie Bunker once sneered, in an attempt to buttress his belief in the superiority of men. 
    Cheaper, yes, Archie. But very, very tasty. I'd rather gnaw on a rib bone than slide through a filet mignon any day. 
    What's the appeal of ribs? 
    ``That's a good question,'' says Merle Ellis of California, who writes a syndicated butcher column. ``I think we're getting back to basics. To hell with the knife and fork. Besides, licking your fingers is the best part.'' ...
