The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration chartered a submersible to aid in its studies of the shortraker rockfish, Sebastes borealis. Eleven dives were made in the eastern Gulf of Alaska, and rockfish were observed on four of them. This is the first documented observation of the species in its natural habitat.
