Saxophonist Ornette Coleman is an acknowledged giant of jazz. But at 75, he still inspires arguments.

He has had detractors as well as admirers of his avant-garde innovations, whether it was his free-jazz explorations of the late 1950s and early `60s or his electrified double quartet Prime Time (with two guitars, two basses and two drummers) in the `70s and beyond.
