In a corner of the obscure Berkshire churchyard of St Mary, Wargrave, lies the earliest mausoleum or, more precisely, columbarium by Sir Edwin Lutyens. Although known to Lutyens scholars, it has never received much attention from them. The purpose of this article is to draw attention to unpublished correspondence in the Oxfordshire Record Office relating to this commission. (1)
