Apr. 16--MOREHEAD CITY, N.C. -- Some environmental activists and fisheries regulators aren't sure they agree with a petition that claims it's time to list the native Eastern oyster as a threatened or endangered species. While it may be a good way to draw attention to the plight of population, the oyster probably doesn't meet the qualifications, said Todd Miller, executive director of the North Carolina Coastal Federation. "I don't think we're quite at that condition yet -- particularly in North Carolina," Miller said.
