Twenty years ago, polio was one of the most feared diseases in the world, present in more than 125 countries on five continents and responsible for paralyzing more than 1,000 children every day.

Leaders of the service club Rotary International decided to do something about it.

Today, polio is close to being wiped out, and world health officials say Rotary, including Wisconsin Rotarians, deserves a lot of the credit.
