The original manuscript of this map was drafted by the Danish priest and historiographer Anders Sorensen Vedel from information supplied by the Icelander Guobrandur Thorlaksson.

Thorlaksson was born in 1542 at Staoarbakki in northwestern Iceland. He was educated at the cathedral school at Holar, before moving to Copenhagen in 1561 to obtain his degree. He then returned home to be rector of Skalholt cathedral school and bishop of Holar.
