Hyde calls Pope John Paul II 'humanity's great champion'.

Apr. 7--Last year, U.S. Rep. Henry Hyde said Pope John Paul II was "absolutely wrong" when he decried America's "soulless vision of the world."
That argument about America's soul, however, could not obscure Hyde's deep respect and admiration for the pope, who he met four times, once for a semi-private mass and meeting.
On Wednesday, as John Paul II lay in state four days after his death at age 84, Hyde called the pope "humanity's great champion" after introducing a resolution to honor the pontiff.
