HE once spent [pounds sterling]290,000 on his favourite fresh flowers in a mere six months.

But Elton John is just as indulgent when it comes to giving to others.

The 58-year-old singer topped this year's list of charitable givers, handing out [pounds sterling]22.6million or 12 per cent of his [pounds sterling]185million fortune to the sick and the needy.

Most of Sir Elton's wealth is distributed by his Aids foundation but he also gives to children's and music charities.
