Computer Associates enters C++ market. (acquires assets of Glockenspiel Ltd.)

Computer Associates, the world's largest commercial software company, has acquired the assets of Glock-enspiel Ltd. of Dublin, Ireland. Founded in 1984, Glockenspiel was the first company worldwide to offer a commercial implementation of C++. The acquisition of Glockenspiel will help the $1.5-billion Computer Associates compete in the object-oriented software development market.

According to CA, it plans to embed Glockenspiel's Common View class library technology in CA's "Aspen" project, which will produce an object-oriented, GUI-based, optimized compiler for ...
