Texel adds a pair of CD-ROM drives to a new generation of drives offering data access at twice the conventional speed. Texel is a domestic subsidiary of Japan's Shinano Kenshi Co. (SKC), a 74-year-old firm with a four-year history of compact disc player design and manufacturing. A longtime OEM source, Texel supplied NEC with its early CD-ROM players, and the company credits SKC's extensive background with motor and drive design as the source of its brisk foray into the field of double-speed CD-ROM machines.
