Salina, Kan., non-profit Catholic group helps immigrants adjust to new life.

Mar. 17--Each of Maria Torres' parents had a sibling who moved from Mexico and found a home for themselves in Salina.

Those relatives told Torres' parents about the community and the jobs. After some persuading, her parents were convinced they, too, could make a good life in Salina.

So, they moved here.

"My father came by himself first to make sure it was a good move," said Torres, who is the immigration consultant with Catholic Charities, 425 W. Iron. "Then he moved all of us."
