Job training bill passes panel; faith-based provision remains.(personal reemployment accounts)

After defeating an amendment to keep faith-based groups out of the federally subsidized job training business, a House panel last week approved legislation to renew and consolidate job training programs.
The far-reaching legislation, one of the first measures to emerge in the new Congress, would reauthorize the Workforce Investment Act, consolidate the three adult job training programs into one block grant, institute personal reemployment accounts (PRAs) and expand the role played by community colleges in job training.
