The Austrian Cultural Forum's free vocal recital at the Austrian Embassy on Thursday evening faced an even greater hurdle than an uncooperative Mother Nature.

Accompanied by William Vendice on the piano, soprano Constance Hauman chose to present a program of art songs by Franz Schrecker, Alexander von Zemlinsky, Arnold Schoenberg and Alban Berg. Most American audiences have little knowledge of the former pair, while most classical-music fans instinctively detest the 12-tone fixations of the latter two.
