The 1955 Eugene High boys basketball team may not have been the most talented team the school had during that decade, but it was the only one to win a state title.

The Axemen reached the state final in 1953 and 1954, but lost both games before winning the championship in 1955.

"My junior year in 1954 was without a doubt the most talented team with Don Ainge and Norm Willoughby and Jack Henkel," Eugene's 6-foot-9 post Mike Moran said. "They had a great bunch of guys, but they never could get by."
