In recognition of Black History Month, The Post-Standard is taking a look at sites in Central New York that played a significant role in the Underground Railroad and the abolitionist movement.
Abolitionists in Madison and Onondaga counties completed a logistical masterpiece in freeing a 24-year-old slave in 1839.
They moved her like a chess piece, starting at a Syracuse hotel and taking her from one home to another before she found freedom in Canada.
