CAMBRIDGE University yesterday joined calls for A-levels to be scrapped.
The move came after it was revealed that more than half the applicants the university turned down last year went on to gain at least three As.
So did 93 per cent of those it accepted.
The figures highlight the difficulties faced by admissions tutors as they try to identify the brightest students from thousands predicted to achieve the highest grades.
