Abstract. -- Craspedacusta sowerbii, the only species of freshwater cnidarian exhibiting a medusa stage in it's life cycle, was collected from an excavated pond in Jefferson County, Texas from 6 July to 12 November 2001. Density was patchy and mean density per collection date varied from 0.59/[m.sup.3] to 34.43/[m.sup.3]. The highest density from a single plankton tow was 121.32/[m.sup.3]. Five polyps were collected from artificial substrates suspended in the water column, indicati...

Cloud cover in the ECMWF reanalysis
Journal of Climate ; ABSTRACT Data from reanalyses recently carried out by several climate and numerical weather prediction centers will find a variety of applications in different branches of atmospheric science. A careful evaluation of the many aspects of these datasets is a prerequisite for their successful use.

Estimating cloud cover.
Science Activities ; Abstract. The purpose of this activity was to help students understand the percentage of cloud cover and make more accurate cloud cover observations. Students estimated the percentage of cloud cover represented by simulated clouds and assigned a cloud cover classification to those simulations,
Effect of Cloud Cover on UVB Exposure Under Tree Canopies: Will Climate Change Affect UVB Exposure?
Photochemistry and Photobiology ; ABSTRACT The effect of cloud cover on the amount of solar UV radiation that reaches pedestrians under tree cover was evaluated with a three-dimensional canopy radiation transport model. The spatial distribution of UVB irradiance at the base of a regular array of spherical tree crowns was modeled

IMPLICATIONS OF CLOUDINESS CHANGES SINCE 1952
Bulletin of the American Meteorological Society ; An analysis of 46 years of marine synoptic weather reports indicates that global ocean mean upper-level cloud cover has decreased since 1952. Less upper-level cloud cover has allowed more emitted thermal (longwave) radiation to escape to space, thus reducing the greenhouse effect caused by clouds.
A Simple Parameterization Coupling the Convective Daytime Boundary Layer and Fair-Weather Cumuli
Journal of the Atmospheric Sciences ; ABSTRACT A new parameterization for boundary layer cumulus clouds, called the cumulus potential (CuP) scheme, is introduced. This scheme uses joint probability density functions (JPDFs) of virtual potential temperature 952;^sub v^) and water-vapor mixing ratio (r), as well as the mean vertical
