Feb. 13--Arnaud Lagardere, the youthful boss of the French publishing conglomerate that bears his name, is quietly laying the cornerstones for his ambition to build a global giant.

In the year to end-December, Lagardere, the group he took over upon the death of his father Jean-Luc two years ago achieved a 7.5 percent sales increase to E13.4bn ([pounds sterling]9.2bn, $17.2bn).
