James H. Connolly Jr. of Oceanside, Calif., formerly of Charlestown, an addiction counselor and veteran, died Feb. 7 at the University of California at San Diego Hospital. He was 50.

Born and raised in Charlestown, Mr. Connolly graduated from Charlestown High in the early 1970s. He went on to graduate magna cum laude from the State University of New York in Oneonta, N.Y., with a bachelor's degree in psychology.

Mr. Connolly served in the Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked as a drug-addiction counselor in New York and Florida for 12 years.
