BOSTON -- Failing to recognize and appropriately treat anaphylaxis in all its guises can have fatal consequences for patients suffering an extreme allergic reaction, said Carlos A. Camargo, M.D.
Many emergency physicians and primary care providers believe they know anaphylaxis when they see it, yet unless a patient presents with acute anaphylactic shock, these providers often do not follow the recommended standard treatment for allergic reactions, said Dr. Camargo, an emergency physician at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.
