The Alaska Division of Public Health received three reports of psychiatric patients who had consumed ceramic glaze during art-therapy sessions in Aug 1992. Two of the patients were found to have elevated blood lead levels. The Art and Craft Materials Institute has recommended that facilities in which supervision is necessary, such as psychiatric hospitals, should only use lead-free glaze.
