One of David Ricardo's most important and lasting contributions to economics was his theory of rent. In brief, Ricardo defined rent as the difference in the costs of production between different tracts of land, and the different costs he in turn attributed to the different productivity levels of land. It may be beneficial, however, to convert Ricardo's cost-difference theory of rent to a net revenue-difference theory. The purpose of this note is to attempt such a conversion.
