There's a fairly good argument that Rio de Janeiro has been just as influential upon modern jazz as New Orleans.
While the link is not always as strong as Stan Getz's groundbreaking recordings with Joao Gilberto and Antonio Carlos Jobim, it's a rare jazz group, whether playing on the concert stage or in a pub back room that won't, at some point, play a bossa or samba rhythm in among the straight swing.
