Mafia booms despite crackdown on capos.

Jan. 30--As the net closes in on the fugitive head of Sicily's Cosa Nostra, Bernardo Provenzano, there are signs that the capture of several high-level capos, or bosses, has not halted the growth of criminal organisations.

Last week's arrest of 46 people suspected of being accomplices of Provenzano and the suicide in jail of the mafia boss considered to be his right-hand man were hailed as victories in the fight against organised crime in Italy.

But a report published on Friday showed that celebration may be premature. ...
