Chinese Executive Vice-Premier Huang Ju laid out ambitious developmental targets for the world's most populous nation at the Annual Meeting 2005 of the World Economic Forum, proclaiming China's intention to quadruple GDP and treble per capita GDP by 2020 from 2000 levels. "In the next decade and more, we will concentrate on building a moderately prosperous society, so that in 2020 China's GDP will reach US$ 4 trillion and per capita GDP will reach US$ 3,000," said Huang, who served as mayor of Shanghai during that city's period of rapid development in the 1990s.
