Jan. 27--The power plant at Port Everglades increased emissions of sulfur dioxide by 80 percent since 1995, sharply raising the amount of unhealthy soot in the air, according to a report released Wednesday by an environmental group.
The Florida Power & Light plant discharged 20,267 tons of sulfur dioxide in 2003, up from 11,290 tons in 1995, according to the report "Pollution on the Rise" by the Florida Public Interest Research Group, which looked at emissions of major pollutants by the nation's power plants.
