Jan. 19--Bruce N. Smith will retire at month's end as director of the Colorado Public Utilities Commission.
Smith, 64, has served as director since 1992 and has worked in state government for 20 years, including 13 at the utilities commission.
The PUC, with a staff of 90, regulates Colorado utilities that provide electric power, natural gas, telecommunications, transportation and water.
