Santa Monica, Calif. -- Almost 16 years ago, Na Na Trading Co. opened its doors in a 100-square-foot space here that was designed to be a yogurt shop.

Instead, the store sold as different type of culture -- clothing and accessories inspired by what was then London's punk music movement.

Nancy Kaufman, whose nickname is Na Na, launched the shop by hand-sewing dressers, rompers and other one-size garments with the Na Na label. Friends soon began bringing in other lines "such as T-shirts with plastic baby doll heads sewed onto them," Kaufman said, and Na Na ...
