Fetal-pelvic disproportion, often the cause of dysfunctional labor in nulliparous women, occurs when the fetus is larger than the mother's pelvis. Many methods developed to identify fetal-pelvic disproportion, including maternal radiographic pelvimetry, ultrasonography-derived estimated fetal weight and a trial of labor for all cephalic presentations, have had limited success.
