The plumbing department be a retailer's best friend. It offers high margins and strong stock turns and is not space-intensive. In fact, the plumbing department provides the most gross margin dollars per square foot of any hardware store category.
Unlike other hardware categories, the majority of plumbing SKUs are blind items. When the toilet breaks, people need parts quickly--price is not their major concern then.
