Blood-reduction program benefits cardiac surgery patients.

2004 DEC 14 - (NewsRx.com & NewsRx.net) -- Researchers at Virginia Commonwealth University's Medical Center have found that a blood-reduction program in cardiac surgery is resulting in a reduced need for transfusions without compromising patients' recoveries.

An observational study in which approximately 1000 cardiac surgery patients were examined showed that patients in the cardiac blood-reduction program did as well as - if not better than - patients who had surgery prior to the implementation of the program.
