Although the U.S. table wine market fell only 2.5% to 316.6 million gallons last year, the impact of a large federal excise tax increase, and a lingering recession, resulted in a 8.6% falloff for all wine sales, as wine coolers and dessert wines were particularly hard hit by the excise tax increase.
