From the pulpit, the Rev. Stephen Hales pressured his flock to follow the words of the bible.
But when the Lord's work would allow, Hales experimented with other kinds of pressure--like, blood pressure, or the power of the heart. One experiment showed that a horse's heart was strong enough to pump its blood up a glass tube nine feet in the air!
