GTE Valenite Corporation has incorporated a dynamic modeling system for preproduction testing of insert geometries. Called Cutting Tool Expert System (CTES), the new modeler simulates an insert in the cut and thus allows manipulation of features (dimples, bumps, rake angles, and the like) to improve the design of an insert's geometry and ultimately deliver better performance.
