The United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD) was established in 1964 to serve as a forum in which trade-related development issues could be discussed and analyzed for the possible resolution of disputed issues. The focus of the eighth quadrennial session of the UNCTAD, held in Colombia in Feb 1992, was the role of the Conference itself in view of the changing global political and economic environment. Representatives of some 170 member nations agreed that institutional reform was necessary to increase UNCTAD's effectivity in dealing with development-related issues. ...
