Commonwealth counties bear British birthright.(Local)

Despite the stellar role that Virginia played in severing the political ties of the 13 American colonies with Great Britain in 1776, many of its counties still bear names that either connect them with members of the royal family or places associated with them at the time that they were created. Moreover, the list would even be larger if the names of no-longer-existing counties were taken into consideration.

BRUNSWICK: (1720) Named for the duchy of Brunswick-Lunenburg, one of the German possessions of George I.
