INTRODUCTION

One of the characteristics of modern nationalism has been its use of simplistic symbols. By "nationalism" I refer to the political movements rising in the nineteenth century defining individuals as belonging to common cultural and linguistic traditions, which were largely invented (Anderson, Hobsbawm).
